Here's all the stuff we used with Hazel. Keep in mind ours was all hand-me-downs or thrift store finds so These are not the best options by any mean but they worked well for us and I recommend them!
I’m not making money from any of these product companies so these are just recommendations based purely on my good experience.
Vibrating baby seat: Fisher Price baby bouncer seat we got one like this as a hand-me-down and the bird songs button was nice while the vibration button was amazing for putting her to sleep and the little hanging animals were briefly entertaining to her. anything like this will work to contain the baby safely.
Stroller/Carseat click together combo: Graco ClickConnect stroller/carseat Combo we got our carseat at the thriftstore and our stroller from johns sister and they were both in this clickconnect system. It's so awesome to take the carseat out and stick it right into the stroller base to go into the grocery store, and it also makes it much easier to lug all your carseat stuff on the ferry or into an airport using the stroller like a luggage cart :p
Pack N Play: Graco play yard Pack N Play (Graco also makes a pack N play with infant basinet on top) We have used the Pack N Play as her crib since she was 6 months old because it can fold up and travel with us which makes her bed familiar wherever we go. However the mattress that's provided is really thin and hard so I got her this Mattress topper and a sheet from mamadoo as well. You can also get a 4th foam section that will zip onto the other three so it becomes a travel mattress pad for toddlers.
Crib Cover: Snooze Shade for the Pack N Play. This thing is genius! If you use it for naps and sleep (as we do) you will want to be able to make the crib darker (especially if you're traveling and can't black out the windows) so this cover is amazing!
Lovey: A Cozy Lovey Blankie is an important part of sleep for us and hazel likes this one.
Bumbo seat: Foam floor seat Bumbo good for baby's who can't sit up on their own yet, beware though that once they are more active they can lean far over and tip the whole seat over. For that reason you must NEVER put your baby in this thing up on a table or near the top of the stairs.
Basinet: Mesh basinet CoSleeper I used this for the first 3 months every night as a safe place for hazel to sleep next to me without worrying that she'd suffocate against me or blankets.
Play mat: Baby gym Play mat excellent for when the baby is just lying on their back all the time, it's great entertainment value.
Bouncy swing: a jumper swing seat like This one is super fun for baby's who can't sit up or get around on their own, it hangs from the door sill. Ours came from the thrift store and was This one although i still don't understand why they need a food tray when they're bouncing up and down :p Hazel still loves to bounce and swing in this thing now and she’s 26 months old. I think we’ve surpassed the weight limit but it seems fine…
Teething Ring: Silicon Teething Rings SO crucial! we love these ones
Ergo Carrier:Pouch Carriers are better than slings in my opinion, I tried several wraps and slings but my favorite carrier all along has been the Original ErgoBaby which doesn't face the baby outwards but that's been fine for us. for a newborn you need the Infant Insert (we got our ergo as a hand-me-down from one of johns co-workers so ask around the moms you know and you might find a free one!)
The ErgoBaby 360 can have the baby facing outwards.
Here's the original with Insert
and here's the 360 with insert
Pulp Feeder: When you start feeding solids this Silicon pulp Feeder is awesome! you can pick one up from stop&shop in the baby aisle.
High Chair: For feeding we were given a hand-me-down Tripp Trapp chair which is awesome because it will grow and change with the baby until eventually it's a cool stool chair for teenagers! We started feeding her pushed right up to the table so we didn't use the tray and because we began really feeding solids at 6 months when hazel could sit upright on her own I didn't feel like I needed the strap system to hold her in, but here's the whole set if you want those parts.
Potty seat: Baby Bjorn Potty seat. we found one of these on our neighbors curb one day. try putting baby on it as early as 4 months and just wait for the pee and poo to come out (it's only a matter of time). We’ve now inherited another 3 of these, plus 2 more that are smaller for the car. This was crucial when we were potty training because it meant we could have one in the upstairs bathroom, one in her bedroom and one in the living room so there was always a potty nearby when she needed to pee and she could always access the nearest potty on her own without needing help.
Monitor:We got this Baby Monitor which works great and has a long enough range that I can work in my greenhouse while she's sleeping and it still has a connection. I don't know why it was discontinued, we just got it last october.
Fan: a small normal fan in the baby's room is helpful for blocking ambient sounds (like you and leigh watching a movie or cooking dinner or having guests over) while the baby is sleeping. I kinda wish we had This one because the remote control would make it possible to lower the speed (and noise level) of the fan after we've gone to sleep without having to open the door)
Toothbrush: Silicon baby toothbrush I got this exact one at Cronigs. it is good because the guard makes it so baby can't jam the handle down their throat. I let her brush her own teeth with that one and I brush her teeth first with This finger brush which is much easier to control
Bathtime: As for bathtubs: I tried several kinds of baby tubs when she was littler and she hated to be placed reclining into water so I gave up and I would just take a normal big bath and get in with her so i could hold her securely in the water and she liked that better. Once she could sit up around 5 or 6 months I was able to put her into her own little tub of water again and now I just use a Tub Trug as a bathtub.
I also gave away all the adorable special baby towels that looked like duckies or puppies and had cute little hoods. It's much easier to just use a normal adult sized towel to dry off a squirmy baby!
Diapers: Aound six months I started using cloth diapers during the daytime at home and continued using disposables for naps and outings and overnights. Around 11 months I switched completely to using cloth. Cloth diapering is not as complex or hard as it seems but there's just WAY too many opinions and blogs and videos on the internet! It’s so easy to get lost and overwhelmed. My solution to over night cloth diapering leaks was to always put a Thirsties Diaper Cover over the outside of whatever layers of cloth diaper I put on her. The Thirsties stops all leaks because it has a double gusset around the leg opening. No matter what brand of diaper you end up buying, always make sure it has a double gusset leg opening and if it doesn’t, make sure you put a double gusseted snappy cover over it. When a baby pees standing up the pee falls down into the diaper, but when a baby pees lying down the pee can run out the side of the cloth and leak. The double gusset prevents leaks. My other piece of advice is to soak your dirty cloth diapers over night in a bucket of water with several cups of white vinegar before you wash them. This neutralizes the ammonia and prevents diaper rashes!
As far as disposables go my recommendations would be to AVOID using Seventh Generation (they're not absorbent enough for liquid newborn poops and they gave hazel a nasty rash)
We used to have a monthly subscription to Honest Diapers using their convenient Diapers &Wipes bundle program. With a newborn baby there's just so much poop, they poo almost every time they nurse so the diapers are insane and it's hard to keep up with. also I found that the local stores sometimes run out of the size you want and then you're scrambling around at the last second looking in all the other stores for diapers. so the monthly subscription was really helpful. We stopped using it around 6 months because hazel was mostly pooping on the potty by then and so we were using toilet paper instead of wipes and there's no way to opt out of the wipes in the bundle subscription so we had this huge supply of wipes (which we're still working on!) the wipes are great by the way.
before I switched completely to cloth diapers at 11 months I used Pampers Pure disposables which are similar enough to Honest and they come in a really nice box at Stop&Shop so I can use the handy box for storing her baby clothes as she outgrows them :)
